Climbing the Flatiron!

At the end of March, on a GORGEOUS day, I climbed the First Flatiron with my friend Kate and her husband Mark. The rock on the right is what I climbed. Pretty crazy. Ever since I first saw the flatirons 5 years ago I have wanted to climb them. I thought it would be a goal to be accomplished after becoming a good climber. But apparently they are super easy...so easy in fact that one person climbed the 3rd Flatiron in rollerskates. So yes, it was an easy climb. But still scary in the fact that if you fell you'd fall a LONG way (even with the ropes), and probably get pretty hurt. So I'm still impressed with myself ;-)

This is what I climbed.

Big rock slide on the hike up

In order from left to right: The third, second, and first flatiron.

View from the beginning of the climb

The back of the third flatiron

View from about halfway up.

Proof that I'm not making up this climbing stuff!

Not quite the summit...

Still not there...

Yay! Made it to the top!!

Belaying down the backside.

First major outdoor climb complete! Woohoo!

Frozen Dead Guy Days

The first weekend of every March there is a festival in Nederland, CO (just outside of Boulder) called Frozen Dead Guy Days. You can read all about it here. It's pretty crazy, weird and fun. Here's some pics:

From the hearse parade:

Grandpa's in the shed!! (Read the link above if you have no idea what I am talking about)

The Polar plunge. This is the firemen cutting the hole in the ice. It was cold and uncomfortable just watching them!

Where's Beetlejuice??

Gotta love the crazy mountain folk....
